Nina Simone, one of the most extraordinary musical artists of the twentieth century, is having her story told now at Theatrical Outfit.

“Simply Simone,” which opens on March 23 and runs through April 15, is part biography, part music revue, and it takes a unique approach to telling the story of both her public and inner life.

The late jazz legend Nina Simone has been getting a lot of attention lately.

Netflix aired a documentary about her titled “What Happened, Miss Simone?” Another documentary, “The Amazing Nina Simone,” is scheduled for later this year, as is a biopic, “Nina,” starring Zoe Saldana.

Atlanta vocalist and pianist Terry Harper will be among the artists paying homage to the late Nina Simone this weekend at the Atlanta Jazz Festival.

Harper, who has frequently played at such local jazz haunts as Churchill Grounds and Cafe 290, will be included in “Four Women – A Tribute to Nina Simone,” which begins Sunday at 3 p.m. at the main stage at Piedmont Park.
