When your art is rooted in your religious faith, how does your work evolve along with your beliefs?

Matthew Paul Miller could tell you.

The hip-hop and reggae singer is better known by his Hebrew name: Matisyahu.

He emerged in the mid-2000s, clad in a long beard and traditional garments, weaving themes of Orthodox Judaism into his lyrics.

This weekend's weather may not have been as extreme as metro Atlanta had been preparing for. While the northern counties did get snow and ice, many of us who who saw only the lightest dusting of frost still spent Saturday and Sunday huddled inside for warmth.

Margo Price has had the kind of year that musicians dream about.

The singer-songwriter rose from relative obscurity in the Nashville music scene on the strength of hard-luck songs about alcohol and loss, and made appearances on "Saturday Night Live" and "A Prairie Home Companion" along the way.

"I definitely had faith in the songs," Price told music contributor Mara Davis while in town for a recent show at Terminal West, "but I don't know that I projected that it would go this far."

Amanda Shires' story sounds like an old country song, with a childhood divided between parents in Lubbock and Mineral Wells, Texas. She's a violinist who joined the legendary Western swing band The Texas Playboys when she was just 15 years old. More recently she played in Jason Isbell's band, The 400 Unit, before dating and eventually getting married – though that hasn't necessarily meant settling down.
