The Republican in a closely watched suburban Atlanta congressional race is echoing the White House after President Donald Trump fired FBI Director James Comey.

Karen Handel says Trump's move is "probably overdue." Her Wednesday statement says Comey "lost the confidence of Republicans, Democrats and broader institutions."

Handel says Trump should "quickly nominate a strong, independent" successor. But she makes no mention of the FBI's inquiry into Trump's ties to Russia, and she says nothing about calls for a special prosecutor.

The FBI and Justice Department have no information to substantiate President Donald Trump's claims that former President Barack Obama wiretapped him before the election, according to FBI Director James Comey.

Comey is testified at a highly politically charged congressional examining Russian meddling and possible connections between Moscow and Trump's campaign. He acknowledged that the FBI does not ordinarily discuss ongoing investigations, but said he'd been authorized to do so given the extreme public interest in this case.

Georgia's Republican U.S. Senators weighed in Tuesday on the FBI's recommendation not to bring charges against presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton over her use of private email servers while she was secretary of state.

FBI Director James Comey said, while Clinton's handling of classified data over private email servers was “extremely careless,” he said “our judgment is that no reasonable prosecutor would bring such a case.”

The FBI won't recommend criminal charges against Hillary Clinton for her use of a private email server while secretary of state, agency Director James Comey said Tuesday, lifting a major legal threat to her presidential campaign. But Comey called her actions "extremely careless" and faulted the agency she led for a lackadaisical approach to handling classified material.

FBI Director James Comey says there's no credible threat to the United States following the Paris terror attack.

He also says investigators have found no connections between the Paris attackers and the U.S.

Appearing before reporters Thursday alongside Attorney General Loretta Lynch, Comey said he was aware that the Islamic State and its supporters regularly issue propaganda in videos and magazines boasting about their plans and capabilities. But he says "that is not credible intelligence."
