In 1957, the Soviet Union launched Sputnik, the first man-made satellite. In 1958, the United States followed with Explorer 1.

Today, there are more than 1,000 of these large satellites revolving around the Earth sending radio signals back to us, which get converted into pictures of the oceans, weather forecasts and even DISH TV.

Many of these satellites are the size of a 7,000-pound hippo and can take decades to design and build.

Research labs that need to share bacteria, toxins and deadly viruses like Ebola will have one fewer shipping option.

FedEx decided it will no longer handle such substances after reports of an army lab unknowingly shipping live anthrax.

The U.S. Department of Defense has paid the Atlanta Falcons more than any other NFL team to market the U.S. military at sporting events.

The team has made more than $1 million over the past four years. That was more than any other team received from the Department of Defense.

After criticism of the military marketing campaign at football games, Falcons owner Arthur Blank issued a statement.

“This is no different than any other sponsorship agreement in that it is structured to fit a business need,” he said.
