StoryCorps: Kim and DeJah Ault
In the early 1980’s, Kim Ault was a teenager in the South Bronx. It was a period of change in her community, and one of those changes was the emergence of hip-hop.
In the StoryCorps booth, Kim told her daughter DeJah about how the genre reflected both the good and the bad times in her neighborhood.
This story was recorded in partnership with CDF: A Collective Action Initiative and the Atlanta History Center, which hosts Atlanta’s StoryCorps booth.
