Regents Devise New Strategic Plan

Aug 15, 2013

The Georgia Board of Regents adopted a new, five-year strategic plan this week. The idea is to help more students finish degree programs.

The plan is part of Gov. Deal’s Complete College Georgia initiative. The governor has said in about 7 years, 60% of Georgia’s jobs will require a post-secondary degree. Right now, just over 40% of Georgians have one.

Regents’ spokesperson John Millsaps says the plan includes flexible degree options to help more students finish:

“Can you have different pathways to degrees?" He asks. "Can you look at the kind of resources that provide some alternatives? When is space being utilized? Is there a possibility to do things in the evenings or different times? So, there’s a lot of avenues that we want to look at that provide more access for students.”

Millsaps says online classes will give students additional flexibility.

The plan is comprised of three imperatives: academic excellence and degree completion; economic development and world-class research; and accountability, efficiency, and innovation.
