A Primer On Georgia Medicaid And The GOP Health Plan

Top Georgia Republicans so far have been fairly quiet about the plan from U.S. House Republicans to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act (also called Obamacare).

Gov. Nathan Deal, for instance, has said he favors a replacement for the ACA, but he wants to know more about how any new health insurance law would affect Georgia. In an interview with the news site Georgia Health News, the Governor said, "We just don't want to be punished" by changes to the funding system for Medicaid.

Most people probably have a basic idea of what Medicaid is, a health insurance program for low-income and disabled patients, funded by the state and Federal governments.  But what may be less widely known is how many people rely on Medicaid, and how the state/federal funding arrangement works.
