Hip-Hop’s De La Soul Making First Album In Years In Atlanta

De La Soul celebrated their 25th anniversary with a performance at Irving Plaza in New York. The group is recording a new album in Atlanta set for release in the fall of 2015.

The Long Island, New York, hip-hop trio De La Soul is working on their first new album in more than 10 years.

The group’s debut release "3 Feet High and Rising" is considered a groundbreaking album, not just within hip-hop circles, but within the industry as a whole. Rolling Stone reviewed it 20 years after its release crediting the album as an early influence to modern hip-hop icons such as Kanye West, Mos Def and Outkast. 

The band members, which formed in 1989, are known as Posdnuos (Kelvin Mercer), Dave (David Jude Jolicoeur) and DJ Maseo (Vincent Mason).

They are currently finishing up their new studio album in Atlanta. It’s due out next fall.

Members of De La Soul reminisced about the early days of making music, labels, their new project and more with Rose Scott and Denis O’Hayer on “A Closer Look.”

Members Of Atlanta Rap Group Migos Arrested After Ga. Show

South Georgia sheriff's deputies say all three members of the hip-hop group Migos face drug and weapon charges following their arrests after a weekend performance at Georgia Southern University.

Bulloch County sheriff's officials say the group and its associates arrived for the Saturday concert on the Statesboro campus in two vans.

Sheriff's officials said in a statement to The Associated Press that law officers detected "a very potent smell" of marijuana coming from the two vehicles and then found drugs and guns inside.

Mixtapes Made Today's Hip-Hop Says Atlanta DJ

Marshall Thomas, best known as DJ Mars, started spinning his first sets in the cafeteria at Clark Atlanta University. In the years since, his trajectory has only been up: he joined Outkast on their original tour, went on to disc jockey for Usher and then even founded his own DJ collective. 

But recently, it's not his story that he's wanted to share; it's the story of the mixtape, which Mars says was crucial to the growth of hip-hop in the 80s and 90s.

"Before radio stations popped up across the country, the underground railroad was the cassette tape," Mars says. 

Rolling Stones Include Atlanta On Upcoming Tour

The Rolling Stones are hitting the road this summer. The latest tour kicks off May 24 at Petco Park in San Diego.

On June 9, the Stones will visit Atlanta, with a show at Bobby Dodd Stadium. Other cities on the jaunt include Orlando, Nashville and Pittsburgh. Tickets for the U.S. cities on this tour go on sale April 13.
