Google Fiber Now Available In Marietta, Duluth

Feb 10, 2016

More than a year after it first announced its plans to expand to the Atlanta area, Google Fiber is now available in two apartment complexes in the Atlanta area: the Wesley Plantation apartment complex in Duluth, Georgia, and Westbury Park apartments in Marietta, Georgia.

Google announced Tuesday it's "making great progress" in the Atlanta area. It launched an apartment finder for the Atlanta area ─ an interactive map sorted by city to find out if your apartment or condo is on the list to have Google Fiber installed or if it has it already, a link to sign up for the service.

The company says it's testing out its network before it opens up sign-ups to single-family homes and specific neighborhoods.

Google Fiber says it does not yet have a timeline for when installation will be complete in other communities in the metro area.

Google says the apartments listed are those it currently has service agreements with and that residents can fill out an interest form to request installation in their complex.

Google Fiber first announced its plans to expand to metro Atlanta in January 2015 and began construction in Midtown Atlanta in June.

In July, the U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro and Google Fiber CEO Dennis Kish announced some city of Atlanta public housing residents would receive free access to Google Fiber.

Google says it is working with the Atlanta Housing Authority to come up with a list of properties and the number of residents who will receive 1 gigabit broadband service. The public housing units will be on a separate construction and installation timeline, which has not yet been determined.
