GDOT Approves $85M for Construction Projects
Expect to deal with cones and detours for the rest of summer.
"These are great improvements, interchange improvements, road widening, things that will really make a difference," says GDOT spokeswoman Natalie Dale.
The state is using bond financing and state funds to pay for the projects on the front-end.
That's because the federal Highway Trust Fund has run low.
"We know, long-term, anything that was eligible for federal funding, we will be requesting that back. But it was more important to keep our projects moving, keep our roads advancing and keep our workers working," says Dale.
In metro Atlanta, the upcoming projects include the building of an overpass in Gwinnett County and the laying of new concrete slabs on the west side of Atlanta.
Other projects include rebuilding the Bartow County interchange where Highway 41 intersects with Highway 441 and constructing a new bridge that spans the Flint River between Talbot and Upson counties.
