On Friday, October 6th, a musical premiere by Bruce Sussman and Barry Manilow closes at the Alliance Theater. It’s called Harmony, and it’s the story of a real singing group from the 1920s and ‘30s known as The Comedian Harmonists.

For nearly a decade, the group was known for its six-part harmonies and vaudevillian humor, before it was disbanded by the German Nazi regime.

John Lemley sat down with Bruce Sussman and Barry Manilow to discuss the musical. Barry began by explaining just how popular the real Comedian Harmonists were.

In this bonus web audio, Barry Manilow and Bruce Sussman talk about how they finally got around to writing a musical after years of penning pop songs together, and about the radio hit that most surprised them both.
